Former national team soccer star, Paul Okoku has joined the growing rank of Nigerian ex-internationals putting something back into the society that produced them, as the Nations Cup 1984 silver medalist has set in motion plans to launch a youth development foundation in Abuja.

To this end, efforts have intensified to ensure the project for less-privileged children and talented sports kids, tagged Greater Tomorrow Foundation goes into motion in grand style with an official launch on April 17, 2014 at Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja.
Okoku said Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) president, Engineer Sani Ndanusa and National Sports Commission (NSC) director-general, Honorable Tunde Elegbeleye will be among top personalities to grace the event.
Other dignitaries expected on the forthcoming date include Katsina State commissioner of youth and sports, Honorable Ibrahim Fafana, League Management Company (LMC) chief operating officer, Malam Salisu Abubakar, Sports Radio 88.9 Brila FM chairman, Dr. Larry Izamoje and ace sports editor-cum-publisher and administrator, Paul Bassey.

Okoku, who was also a member of the trailblazing Flying Eagles’ squad of Mexico ’83 World Youth Championship (WYC) further revealed that other guests who have confirmed their participation at the launch are Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, Chief Segun Odegbami, Coach James Peter, John Mastroudes, Dr. Ibrahim Umah, Godwin Odiye and Nathaniel Ogedegbe.

While expressing gratitude for public interest in the project, Okoku said he is humbled that Nigerians have not forgotten him in spite of his exit from football about 30 years ago and commended his under-20 national team pal, Dahiru Saidi for working tirelessly in his position as director of event to ensure the April 17, 2014 event ends in success.
